We have always thought that music should be a family affair and so does Merlin owner Chris G. whose daughter Janine, really likes her daddy's Merlin VSMs. When Chris e-mailed this drawing Janine made of her Daddy's stereo, we just had to post it here. Got a special picture (or drawing) of your Merlin's? Don't be shy. E-mail them to us and we may post them here!

May 2004, New York City, NY - Here we are at the 2004 (Primedia/Stereophile) Home Entertainment show. Our room at this show was a beautiful room all the way at the end of the hall on the 6th floor. Despite our seemingly out of the way location, lots of people managed to find the room and there was often standing room only. For those of you who couldn't attend, we put together this vignette to give you an idea of what the room was like. Our system for this show consisted of a Piano Black pair of VSM-MX speakers which were complimented by the Piano Black Joule Electra VZN-100MKIV monoblock OTL power amplifiers, Joule Electra LA-150 line stage preamp, Audio Aero Capitole 24/192 MKII CD player, and cabling from JPS Labs (including some incredibly natural sounding prototype Aluminata series speaker cables and interconnects). The above picture may look somewhat familiar, but if you look closely (or click on it to view a larger version of the image), you will see the equipment used in our 2004 CES show suite is from Convergent Audio Technology (CAT). This was the first time the VSM-MX speaker system was demonstrated to the public, trade, and press. By all accounts, the system sounded quite spectacular and really showed off the VSM-MX's dynamic abilities and complete lack of compression at most any volume level.

A closer look at our 2004 CES suite. From left to right above: Ken Stevens from CAT and Bobby Palkovic from Merlin share a jovial moment; the 150W CAT JL-3 Triode Monoblocks powering the Merlin VSM-MX speaker system; and our VPI TNT-6 provided great vinyl playback for the show.

We pasted together three pictures here to give you a panoramic type view of our highly praised 2003 CES suite. Wayne Garcia (Editor of the Absolute Sound) commented in the April/May 2003 Issue of the Absolute Sound that "The sound was exceptionally dynamic, tonally gorgeous, marvelously layered and coherent, earning my vote for perhaps the 'best sound' of the show, and certainly the most fun." By the way, yes, that is Merlin President Bobby Palkovic sitting on the couch in the center image.

Some more pictures from the 2003 CES of our show suite. From left to right: The system's front end gear (Joule-Electra LAP-150 preamp, Audio Aero Capitole 24/192 MKII CD Player, VPI TNT table/JMW Arm/SDS Motor Drive/Cardas Heart analogue front end, and Cardas Audio Cables). Next, is a view of the Joule-Electra VZN-100 Marquis OTL mono power amplifiers and Merlin VSM-M speakers in Ruby Heart Red premium clearcoat finish. On the right is a fun picture of a long time Merlin friend, Marvin B., with the VSM speakers and Joule-Electra amps.

Premium Clearcoat Finish Options

Due to the many requests, we have been working on assembling a collection of photo's of VSMs and TSMs in the premium clearcoat finishes. Please keep in mind that these pictures are not perfect representations.  The premium finishes are very reflective (high gloss) and most have metallic flake in the finish. Photographing them can be quite difficult. Additionally, since all computer monitors are not the same, the actual color of the finish may not correspond exactly to what you see on your screen. We have done the best that we can, so use pictures show here as a guide and not as an exact replication.

it clearly shows portions of the pockmarked factory floor in the reflection of the finish!]
