"Merlin speakers are seemingly one of the great unknowns in audio. The Merlin room featured my first encounter with Blue Circle electronics, and the reason for the Blue Circle name was rather obvious: an illuminated Blue Circle on the faceplates. The top of the line Merlin VSM speakers are a medium sized 2 way speaker with active equalization. EAD digital gear was providing the music. The system featured exceptional dynamic range, with the extremes of the Rachmaninoff CD well presented. Tonal balance was impeccable, with the heaviest impact of treble and bass notes just dead on. I thought the sound of the piano was superb through this system. About the only quibble was the reality that speakers the size of the VSMs just can't move huge amounts of air. What I heard in this room was terrific overall. I've only had one audiophile friend with Merlin, and they were always particularly pleasant on the acoustic music he generally played. It's a shame that the company's products seem to be unfamiliar to most audiophiles."

"The Merlin room had their new VSM SE speakers, EAD digital components, and Blue Circle 3 preamp and BC-6 25 watt stereo amp, Cardas Golden Cross wiring. This system was very revealing with excellent detail and no harshness, excellent sense of dynamic swings, good soundstaging, with limited air movement and bass extension. These smallish floor standing speakers sounded very refined."
